In a significant push to bolster small-scale industries and traditional crafts, the Rajasthan government on Sunday greenlit substantial financial assistance worth nearly Rs 58 crore. The grants, approved under the Integrated Cluster Development Scheme, are aimed at empowering the state's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), handicraft, and handloom sectors through technological modernization, skill enhancement, and shared infrastructure.
Major Investment Across Nine Districts
The industries department cleared a total of 10 projects spanning 10 clusters located in nine different districts. The cumulative cost of these initiatives is estimated at Rs 69 crore. In a move that significantly eases the burden on local units, the state government has committed to funding up to 100% of the approved project components, as confirmed by officials.
Establishing Modern Common Facility Centres
A cornerstone of this development plan is the establishment of state-of-the-art Common Facility Centres (CFCs). These centres, equipped with advanced machinery, will be set up in Bharatpur, Hanumangarh, Phalodi, Kotputli–Behror, Balotra, Dausa, and Jaipur. It is projected that over 100 micro and small industrial units will benefit directly from these modern shared facilities.
Parallel to infrastructure development, a strong focus has been placed on human resource development. More than 300 artisans from Jaipur, Churu, and Jhunjhunu districts will receive specialised training to hone their skills. The entire training cost, amounting to approximately Rs 1.18 crore, will be covered by the state government.
Diverse Sectors to Receive a Boost
The approved projects target a wide array of traditional and modern small industries, ensuring broad-based economic growth. The specific clusters include:
- Engineering fabrication in Kotputli–Behror
- Textile processing in Balotra
- Stone carving in Dausa and Bharatpur
- Home furnishings in Jaipur
- Agricultural equipment manufacturing in Hanumangarh
- Agro-processing in Phalodi
The level of grant support for these projects is substantial, ranging between 80% and 100% of the total project costs. This high level of subsidy is designed to dramatically reduce the financial load on the participating enterprises and artisan groups.
Expected Outcomes and Official Statement
Commenting on the initiative, Industries Commissioner Suresh Kumar Ola stated that this comprehensive support package is expected to yield multiple positive outcomes. He emphasized that the scheme will lead to a marked improvement in product quality, increase production capacity, and help local businesses expand their market reach both domestically and potentially internationally.
This strategic investment by the Rajasthan government underscores its commitment to preserving traditional crafts while simultaneously modernizing small-scale industries. By providing both infrastructure and training, the scheme addresses critical gaps that have historically limited the growth and competitiveness of these vital economic sectors.
