Telangana Finalizes Asset Division for New Power Discom TGRPDCL

The Telangana government is in the final stages of dividing assets among its three power distribution companies (discoms), including the newly formed Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited (TGRPDCL). The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) approved the division of assets and power purchase agreements (PPAs) within just two months, and the employee division process has also reached its final stage.

Focus on Agricultural Transformers

According to TGRPDCL officials, the first priority in the asset division process for field-level operations is the survey of agricultural distribution transformers (DTRs). There are nearly 5.6 lakh agricultural transformers across the state. To conduct the survey efficiently, plans have been made to deploy three survey teams in each of the 744 operational sections, resulting in a total of 2,232 teams participating daily.

Mobile App for Survey

The Rythu discom has developed a special mobile application for this purpose. Through the app, assistant engineers will collect photographs of transformer structures, DTR emboss numbers, and nameplate details of agricultural DTRs under their jurisdiction, while also recording the geo-coordinates of each transformer, officials said.

Video Conference Among Officials

On Wednesday, the chairmen and managing directors (CMDs) and senior officials of the three discoms held a video conference to discuss the survey of agricultural distribution transformers proposed to come under TGRPDCL's jurisdiction. Officials also informed that a pilot survey of certain agricultural DTRs had already been successfully conducted in the Rajendranagar circle.

Public Hearing and Commencement of Operations

The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) will conduct a public hearing on granting a licence to the Rythu discom on May 28. TGRPDCL CMD Musharraf Faruqui stated that once the asset mapping process is completed, the discom is likely to commence full-fledged operations from June 2, subject to the government's decision.
