Telangana Government Initiates Major Industrial Expansion in Adilabad
In a significant move to decentralize industrial growth, the Telangana government has commenced plans for a sprawling 10,000-acre industrial park in Adilabad. This ambitious project, second in scale only to the 14,000-acre Pharma City in Hyderabad's Future City corridor, aims to address regional imbalances and stimulate economic activity in backward areas.
Strategic Location and Infrastructure Advantages
The proposed site in Adilabad has been carefully selected for its strategic advantages. Proximity to the Hyderabad-Nagpur highway and accessibility to a proposed airport in Adilabad are key factors driving this decision. A senior district official highlighted that the identified land parcels in Bhoraj and Bheempur mandals are approximately 20 km from the proposed airport and 10 km from the highway, enhancing connectivity for future industries.
Officials emphasize that connectivity is a decisive element in attracting companies. Industrial ecosystems supported by airports and highways tend to draw significant investment, as evidenced by the success of the Kakatiya mega textile park in Warangal. The revival of a defence airstrip near Adilabad town, with about 369 acres and plans for an additional 700 acres for the airport, further bolsters the region's infrastructure profile.
Land Acquisition and Classification Details
Revenue authorities have identified land parcels in Bhoraj and Bheempur mandals, with the acquisition process slated to begin next month. The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) is preparing a detailed project report, a crucial step before formal land acquisition.
Land classification reveals that nearly half of the proposed 10,000 acres comprises government and ceiling-assigned land, while the remainder is private patta land. Specifically:
- Approximately 4,000 acres have been identified in Bhoraj mandal alone.
- About 2,822.38 acres are classified as arable land.
- Around 3,234.79 acres are non-arable, with the government prioritizing the takeover of non-arable land to minimize agricultural disruption.
Identified parcels span several villages and tribal hamlets, including Hathighat, Rampur, Guda, and Gimma (B) in Bhoraj, and Tamsi (K), Pippalkoti, Gollaghat, and Gunjala in Bheempur. Given past contentious land acquisitions, such as in Lagacherla, Vikarabad district, the government is proceeding cautiously due to tribal habitations in the area.
Addressing Regional Industrial Imbalance
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced this proposal during a visit to Adilabad a few months ago, directing officials to identify suitable land. The initiative seeks to correct the region's industrial imbalance, as Adilabad currently lacks a functional industrial park, with the Cement Corporation of India unit having closed nearly three decades ago. In contrast, neighboring districts like Asifabad and Mancherial, carved out of erstwhile Adilabad, already host industrial clusters.
Officials from TGIIC project that the proposed park will generate employment for local youth and spur economic activity, revitalizing the region. A month ago, in-charge minister Jupally Krishna Rao, Rajya Sabha MP Vem Narender Reddy, and BJP MLA Payal Shankar conducted an aerial survey of the identified land parcels, signaling the project's forward momentum.
This development marks a pivotal step in Telangana's efforts to foster inclusive growth, leveraging infrastructure and strategic planning to transform Adilabad into a hub of industrial activity.
