Top 10 Cars in India: Nexon Leads with 50% Growth

Indian Auto Market Soars with Festive Cheer and Tax Benefits

The Indian passenger vehicle industry experienced a remarkable multi-dimensional sales surge during October 2025, driven by festive season enthusiasm and improved consumer confidence. The market received an additional boost from the GST rate reduction implemented in late September, which particularly helped revive the small car segment while sub-compact SUVs maintained their strong consumer appeal.

Top Performers: SUVs and Sedans Lead the Charge

Tata Nexon emerged as the undisputed champion in the Indian automotive market, capturing the top position as the country's bestselling car in October 2025. The popular SUV recorded impressive sales of 22,083 units last month, representing a substantial 50% increase compared to the 14,759 units sold during the same period in 2024.

Securing the second position, Maruti Suzuki Dzire witnessed an extraordinary 64% sales surge, delivering 20,791 units in October 2025 compared to 12,698 units in the previous year. This remarkable growth can be attributed to the new generation model's enhanced safety ratings, premium features, and the beneficial impact of the GST reduction.

The ever-reliable Maruti Suzuki Ertiga maintained its dominance in the MPV segment, claiming the third spot with sales of 20,087 units, marking a 7% growth from 18,785 units sold in October 2024. Following closely, the practical Maruti Suzuki Wagon R secured fourth position with 18,970 units sold, achieving a healthy 36% year-over-year increase from 13,922 units.

Steady Growth for Compact SUVs and Crossovers

The Hyundai Creta lineup, including both the N Line variant and the electric version, demonstrated consistent performance with 18,381 units sold, registering a 5% growth compared to 17,497 units in the previous year. Similarly, Mahindra Scorpio, combining both Classic and N variants, showed strong numbers with 17,880 units sold, reflecting a 14% increase from 15,677 units.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx, the stylish crossover based on the Baleno platform, recorded sales of 17,003 units, marking a modest 4% growth over the 16,419 units sold in October 2024. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno itself maintained steady performance with 16,873 units sold, achieving a 5% year-over-year increase.

Tata Punch, combining both internal combustion engine and electric versions, continued its strong market presence with 16,810 units sold, representing a 7% growth compared to 15,740 units in the same month last year.

The Only Decliner in Top 10

Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki Swift found itself at the tenth position and was the only model among the top 10 to experience a sales decline. Despite the beneficial GST rate cut, the Swift recorded 15,542 units, representing an 11% decrease from 17,539 units sold in October 2024.

The overall sales data clearly indicates that the combination of festive season buying, positive consumer sentiment, and government tax incentives created a perfect environment for automotive growth in India. While SUVs and crossovers showed steady performance, traditional favorites like hatchbacks and sedans demonstrated particularly strong growth percentages, suggesting a balanced market recovery across multiple segments.
