UP Expressways Authority Launches Tender Process for Major Link Project
Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has officially commenced the search for a suitable construction company to undertake the ambitious project of building a spur route connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Purvanchal Expressway. This strategic move follows the approval of the alignment and marks a significant step forward in the state's infrastructure development agenda.
Project Details and Strategic Importance
Spanning approximately 51 kilometers, the proposed link route is designed to facilitate seamless movement of motor vehicles directly between the two major expressways. This initiative will effectively eliminate the need for commuters to navigate through congested city traffic, thereby saving time and reducing travel-related stress. The approved alignment will traverse through several key villages, including Jaliamau in Mohan, Piparsand, Banthara, and Gaura, before culminating at Ratiyamau in Gosainganj.
The project involves the construction of a six-lane expressway, with an allocated budget of Rs 2,865 crore. The entire construction phase is projected to be completed within a three-year timeframe. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from various departments, emphasizing the urgency and directing them to expedite work on all sanctioned expressway projects across the state.
Tendering and Implementation Timeline
UPEIDA officially floated the tenders for the construction of this critical link expressway on February 18. A senior officer from the authority provided insights into the subsequent steps, stating, "A meeting with infrastructure and construction companies is planned on March 16 to discuss the modalities required to undertake the project. We are hopeful of shortlisting the agency by April 7." This structured approach underscores the authority's commitment to a transparent and efficient selection process.
Enhanced Regional Connectivity and Economic Impact
Priority has been assigned to this project due to its potential to significantly boost regional connectivity. Once operational, the direct link between the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways is expected to attract an increased number of motorists, especially with the impending opening of the Ganga Expressway for vehicular movement. Officials highlighted that motorists from the National Capital Region (NCR) and other parts of northern India are likely to utilize this integrated network—comprising the Ganga Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Purvanchal Expressway—for commuting to states like Bihar and West Bengal.
Additional Infrastructure Features
The project design includes several supplementary features to maximize utility and safety:
- Entry and Exit Ramps: These will be constructed to facilitate smooth vehicle movement towards the defence corridor in Lucknow, an industrial cluster being developed by the authority, as well as national highways connecting Lucknow to Kanpur, Rae Bareli, and Sultanpur.
- Service Road: A 7-meter wide service road will be developed alongside the main carriageway in areas adjacent to densely populated towns. This addition aims to enhance local accessibility and safety for residents.
