Prayagraj: After the successful launch of the Ganga Expressway, Uttar Pradesh is set to take another major leap in infrastructure development with the proposed 330-km long Vindhya Expressway. The ambitious project will pass through 84 villages spread across Soraon, Phulpur and Handia tehsils of Prayagraj district, before extending towards Sonbhadra and further connecting with four neighbouring states—Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
The expressway will also be linked with the Ganga Expressway at Judapur Dandu village in Soraon, creating a seamless high-speed corridor across the region.
The decision to construct the Vindhya Expressway was taken in a cabinet meeting of the Yogi government held at Sangam during Maha Kumbh 2025. Following the approval, the district administration would soon begin the land acquisition process.
According to officials, the proposed expressway will originate from Prayagraj and extend up to Sonbhadra, significantly improving connectivity between eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states. From Sonbhadra, it will provide direct access to the borders of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand, making it a strategically important route for both passenger and freight movement.
The detailed land acquisition plan covers 29 villages in Soraon tehsil, 24 villages in Phulpur tehsil and 31 villages in Handia tehsil. The district administration has already finalised the village-wise list and groundwork for acquisition and preliminary surveys is expected to begin shortly.
Officials believe that the expressway will drastically reduce travel time, improve logistics efficiency and strengthen trade and tourism networks across the region. It is also expected to boost industrial development and create new economic opportunities by improving access to markets and reducing transportation costs.
The Vindhya Expressway is poised to transform the economic landscape of eastern Uttar Pradesh, linking remote areas to major urban centers and fostering regional integration. With seamless connectivity to the Ganga Expressway, it will form a vital part of the state's ambitious highway network, enhancing both passenger convenience and freight movement. The project underscores the state government's commitment to rapid infrastructure development, aiming to spur growth in trade, tourism, and industry across the region.
