Urban Tots Scales Up Production to Strengthen India's Toy Industry
Urban Tots, an Indian toy manufacturing company, has significantly expanded its production capacity at its 350,000-square-foot facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The company now employs more than 450 people and manufactures a wide range of toys for the domestic market, contributing to India's goal of reducing reliance on imported toys.
The expansion is part of a broader shift in India's toy sector, which is seeing increased domestic manufacturing, stricter quality regulations, and changing consumer preferences. Urban Tots' facility features automated conveyor systems, Poka-Yoke quality mechanisms, and production processes designed to minimize defects while ensuring consistent quality. All products comply with international safety standards, including EN71 and BIS certifications.
From Observation to Manufacturing: The Urban Tots Story
The company was founded by entrepreneur Deepak Chaudhary, who noticed that the toys his children played with were almost all imported. This realization of India's heavy dependence on foreign-made toys led him to establish Urban Tots. Unlike many businesses that start with imports, Urban Tots invested directly in domestic manufacturing. The manufacturing journey began with the Bhoomi Poojan of its facility on August 14, 2021.
To build large-scale production capabilities, the founding team studied manufacturing technologies and factory operations in China. They adapted those learnings to create a modern manufacturing ecosystem in India focused on efficiency, precision, and scalability. The company has also integrated sustainability practices, focusing on waste reduction and productivity improvement.
Product Range and Distribution Network
Urban Tots initially entered the market with role-play trolley products and has since expanded into multiple categories. The company now manufactures ride-on and battery-operated toys, including electric cars and tractors, as well as infant products, sensory toys, and educational learning kits for early childhood development.
Alongside manufacturing expansion, Urban Tots has built a nationwide distribution network with thousands of dealers and retailers. The company is present on major online marketplaces and, in addition to its own consumer brand, manufactures products for several established companies, supplying toys under different labels to households across India.
Industry Context and Future Outlook
Industry observers note that India's toy sector is entering a critical growth phase. Improved infrastructure, policy support, and technology adoption are encouraging companies to compete internationally while serving growing domestic demand. According to Deepak Chaudhary, "India has every ingredient required to become a global toy manufacturing hub—entrepreneurship, engineering talent, manufacturing capability and an enormous domestic market. The next step is to build products that are recognised worldwide not because they are made in India, but because they represent quality, innovation and trust."
Urban Tots' growth reflects a wider trend of manufacturing-led expansion in the toy industry, where long-term investments in infrastructure, technology, and workforce development are becoming increasingly important. As India seeks to strengthen its position in global supply chains, companies like Urban Tots are contributing to the country's transition from a major toy import market to a competitive manufacturing and export destination.
