Varanasi District Attracts Major Industrial Investment Proposals
In a significant boost to industrial development in the region, Varanasi district has received investment proposals totaling over Rs 22,914 crore through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). According to recent reports, 86 of these projects are now complete and fully operational, marking substantial progress in the district's economic growth initiatives.
Progress on GBC 5.0 Investment Targets
The district has been assigned an investment target of Rs 6,000 crore for the upcoming Ground Breaking Ceremony (GBC) 5.0. So far, approximately 60 percent of this target investment has been successfully registered on the Sarathi portal, indicating strong momentum toward meeting the ambitious goal.
Administrative Review and Investor Support
District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar recently chaired a crucial meeting of the District Udyog Bandhu Committee and MoU Implementation Unit to review the progress of industrial development and investment proposals. During the Monday meeting, Kumar heard directly from investors about their challenges and directed concerned department officials to resolve these issues promptly.
The district magistrate placed special emphasis on swift resolution of investor problems and encouraging industrial growth through administrative cooperation. He assured that the district administration is fully prepared to cooperate at every level to facilitate business establishment.
Addressing Specific Industrial Concerns
Several practical problems raised by entrepreneurs at Industrial Estate Chandpur and Maheshpur received immediate attention during the review meeting:
- Non-acceptance of cheques for electricity bill payments
- Closure of payment counters at the Industrial Estate Power House
- Electrical tripping issues and complaints related to electricity bill generation
The executive engineer of the electricity department was directed to conduct on-site inspections and implement permanent solutions to these problems. Additionally, the district magistrate issued several other important directives:
- Increased police patrolling in industrial areas for enhanced security
- Immediate felling of dry trees by forest department officials
- Resolution of double taxation complaints by the Nagar Nigam
- Daily cleaning and garbage collection in industrial zones
Portal Efficiency and Regulatory Actions
The district administration has made significant progress in processing applications through the 'Nivesh Mitra' portal, with most applications already disposed of. Remaining cases have been directed for earliest completion. Kumar specifically instructed officials to ensure immediate disposal of all pending cases on the portal.
In a move to regulate industrial activities, the district magistrate directed officials to identify illegal brick kilns through a systematic campaign, create a comprehensive list, and take appropriate action against unauthorized operations.
Promoting Industrial Incentives and Schemes
The deputy commissioner of industries received specific instructions to ensure extensive, scheme-wise publicity of all facilities, grants, and schemes provided by the district administration for establishing industrial units in Varanasi.
"A conducive environment for establishing industries, administrative cooperation, swift approvals, and various government incentive schemes are all available in our district," Kumar stated while appealing to entrepreneurs, investors, and business organizations.
The district magistrate encouraged interested investors to come forward fearlessly, emphasizing that the administration has created favorable conditions for industrial growth and stands ready to support business development at every stage.
The meeting also included discussions on compliance with directions from previous sessions, with clear instructions given for time-bound action on all cases received during the current review. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the district administration's commitment to transforming Varanasi into a major industrial hub through systematic planning and proactive problem-solving.
