Vedanta Aluminium Forges Strategic Partnerships for Jharsuguda Downstream Park
In a significant development for Odisha's industrial landscape, Vedanta Aluminium Metal has formalized memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with two prominent manufacturing companies to establish downstream units at its upcoming aluminium park in Jharsuguda. The agreements were signed in Bhubaneswar on Friday, marking a pivotal step towards enhancing value addition and employment generation in the state.
Major Investment and Employment Generation
The collaborative project is projected to attract investments exceeding Rs 500 crore and is expected to generate approximately 1,500 direct and indirect jobs. This initiative underscores Vedanta's commitment to fostering economic growth and industrial diversification in Odisha.
The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Odisha's Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain and Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department Hemant Sharma. The agreements were executed with Singhal Steel and Power Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Singhal Group of Industries, and Scot-Al Metcon Pvt Ltd, an associate company of Scottish Chemical Industries and UAL Industries.
Creating a Dedicated Industrial Ecosystem
Vedanta emphasized that the proposed aluminium park will function as a specialized industrial ecosystem tailored for downstream aluminium industries. This facility is designed to support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) while reinforcing Odisha's stature as a global aluminium hub.
The initial phase of the park will encompass approximately 56 acres. Envisioned as a flagship downstream manufacturing hub, the park aims to assist industries in reducing logistics costs, energy consumption, and production time. Additionally, it is poised to contribute significantly to Odisha's socio-economic development.
Government and Corporate Perspectives
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted that this initiative would reinforce Odisha's position as a leading industrial destination by accelerating investments and creating large-scale employment opportunities. He noted the strategic importance of such projects in driving regional economic progress.
Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma elaborated that the proposed park would deepen the state's industrial value chain by integrating infrastructure readiness with robust policy support. This synergy is expected to enable downstream industries to scale operations efficiently and sustainably.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Metal, stated that the park reflects the company's strategic shift towards value-added manufacturing beyond primary aluminium production. "By enabling a strong downstream ecosystem, we aim to unlock opportunities for local entrepreneurs and foster industrial innovation," he remarked.
C Chandru, CEO of Vedanta Jharsuguda, added that the park would strengthen the regional industrial ecosystem while creating sustainable livelihoods and promoting entrepreneurship in the area. He emphasized the long-term benefits for the local community and the broader industrial sector.
