CNG prices in Delhi-NCR have been increased once again, marking the second hike in just two days and pushing rates in the national capital beyond Rs 80 per kilogram. Following the latest revision, CNG in Delhi now costs Rs 80.09 per kg, while consumers in Noida and Ghaziabad will pay Rs 88.70 per kg.
The latest increase comes after a Rs 2 per kg hike announced on May 15, taking the total rise in CNG prices over the last 48 hours to Rs 3 per kg. The fuel price surge comes amid rising global crude oil prices linked to the ongoing West Asia conflict and supply disruptions in international markets.
Earlier this week, petrol and diesel prices were also raised by Rs 3 per litre across the country. In Delhi, petrol prices climbed to Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel prices rose to Rs 90.67 per litre. Brent crude prices have reportedly crossed the 100-dollar-per-barrel mark due to escalating tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran.
Impact on Consumers
The consecutive hikes in CNG prices are expected to increase the financial burden on commuters and transport operators in the Delhi-NCR region. Auto-rickshaw drivers, taxi operators, and bus services that rely on CNG are likely to face higher operational costs, which may lead to increased fares for passengers.
Global Factors Driving Prices
The surge in global crude oil prices is primarily attributed to geopolitical tensions in West Asia, particularly the ongoing conflict and supply chain disruptions. The situation has tightened international oil markets, pushing Brent crude above the $100 per barrel threshold. Analysts suggest that further price increases cannot be ruled out if the conflict escalates or supply disruptions persist.
India, which imports a significant portion of its oil and gas requirements, remains vulnerable to global price volatility. The government has been monitoring the situation closely, but retail fuel prices continue to reflect international trends.
