Ahmedabad witnessed the third fuel price hike in less than ten days, pushing petrol prices close to the Rs 100 per litre mark. This upward revision is attributed to rising global crude oil prices and firm international fuel trends. State-run oil marketing companies implemented the revised rates from 6 am on May 23.
Latest Price Revision
In the latest adjustment, petrol prices in Ahmedabad increased by 85 paise per litre, moving from Rs 98.38 to Rs 99.23. Meanwhile, diesel prices saw a sharper rise of 94 paise per litre, climbing from Rs 94.19 to Rs 95.13. This revision follows two previous price increases announced on May 15 and May 19.
Cumulative Impact Since May 15
Since the first price hike on May 15, petrol prices in Ahmedabad have surged by Rs 4.72 per litre, escalating from Rs 94.51 to Rs 99.23. Diesel prices have increased even more, by Rs 4.96 per litre, rising from Rs 90.17 to Rs 95.13 over the same period.
Reasons Behind the Hike
Sources indicate that the primary drivers for the price revision are increases in international crude oil prices and higher product prices in global markets. These factors have compelled oil marketing companies to adjust retail prices accordingly.
Impact on Commuters and Transporters
With petrol now retailing above Rs 99 per litre, transporters and daily commuters are expected to feel the financial strain. The rapid succession of price hikes within a short span has heightened concerns over rising fuel costs, which could lead to increased transportation expenses and inflationary pressures.
