Telangana Agricultural University Pioneers Women-Exclusive Farmers' Fair
In a landmark move to honor and strengthen the role of women in agriculture, Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University is set to host a groundbreaking women's farmers' fair at Rajendranagar on March 8 and 9. This event aligns with International Women's Day celebrations and forms a key part of the government's '99-day public governance–progress plan', highlighting a dedicated effort to uplift female farmers across the state.
Collaborative Efforts and High-Level Preparations
The fair is being organized with robust support from the state agriculture department and Coromandel International, ensuring a well-coordinated initiative. Agriculture department secretary Surendra Mohan recently conducted a high-level review meeting to meticulously assess preparations and guarantee the smooth execution of the event. This proactive approach underscores the commitment to making the fair a resounding success.
A First-of-Its-Kind Initiative
Vice-chancellor Aldas Janaiah of the agricultural university emphasized that while the institution has hosted numerous farmers' fairs in the past, this marks the inaugural event exclusively for women farmers. It serves as a formal acknowledgment of their indispensable contributions to the agricultural sector, which often go unrecognized. Janaiah projected an attendance of approximately 8,000 to 10,000 women farmers, with nearly 3,000 participants expected from the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty under the state's rural development department.
Interactive Sessions and Practical Solutions
The two-day fair will feature a series of interactive sessions designed to foster direct engagement between women farmers, scientists, and progressive farmers. These discussions will focus on addressing key agricultural challenges and exploring practical, actionable solutions. By facilitating such dialogues, the event aims to equip participants with knowledge and tools to enhance their farming practices and economic outcomes.
