Residents of Purab Premium Apartments in Mohali's Sector 88 can finally see a permanent end to their long-standing battle with basement water seepage. The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has sanctioned a substantial budget of approximately ₹3.8 crore for comprehensive waterproofing work aimed at resolving the persistent issue.
A Long-Awaited Solution for Persistent Problems
For years, occupants of the housing complex have endured significant inconvenience and safety hazards due to water seeping into the basement from the adjoining power area. The recurring problems included water accumulation during monsoons, damp walls, and damage to vehicles parked in the basement. Despite numerous complaints from residents over time, a definitive fix remained elusive until now.
With GMADA taking direct charge of the project, there is renewed optimism among the apartment owners. The authority plans to execute the work in a time-bound and technically robust manner, with a special focus on quality to prevent any future recurrence.
Scope and Timeline of the Waterproofing Project
According to official details, the targeted waterproofing will be conducted above the basement slab in the power zone adjacent to Blocks A, B, C, and D of the apartment complex. The methodology involves removing the existing power blocks, conducting a thorough technical inspection of the basement slab, and then applying advanced waterproofing techniques.
Chief Engineer Ajay Garg provided clarity on the project's schedule, stating, "This work will be completed within four months. With this, the long-pending demand of residents living in Purab Premium Apartments will finally be addressed, and they will get permanent relief from the seepage problem." The physical work will commence following the completion of the tender process.
Resident Relief and Future Assurance
The residents have welcomed GMADA's decisive allocation, describing it as a much-needed intervention. They anticipate that once the project is finished, the basement will transform into a safe, dry, and fully functional space, putting an end to years of anxiety and inconvenience.
GMADA officials have emphasized that the project is designed to withstand heavy rainfall, ensuring that residents are not plagued by similar seepage issues in the future. This proactive step by the development authority is set to significantly enhance the livability and structural integrity of the Purab Premium Apartments complex in Sector 88.
