The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Chandigarh is launching a significant initiative to boost its revenue by inviting bids for 75 advertisement sites across the city. This move is projected to generate approximately Rs 15 crore in annual income for the civic body, establishing a substantial new revenue stream.
Approval and Finalization of Tender Details
The proposal received the green light during a recent general house meeting of the MC. Following this approval, the corporation has diligently finalized all terms and conditions for prospective bidders. Of the total 75 sites, 51 are brand new locations that have received the necessary clearance from the Chandigarh administration's urban planning department.
All preparatory paperwork and formalities have been completed, paving the way for the tender to be officially floated. To ensure complete transparency for interested parties, the tender documents will explicitly specify the sizes and dimensions of both the advertisement panels and the taller unipole structures.
Strategic Location Planning and Site Selection
The placement of these advertisement sites has been carefully planned. The smaller advertisement panels will be installed across various sectors in the city, ensuring wide visibility. Meanwhile, the 16 high-mast unipoles will be concentrated primarily in the southern sectors of Chandigarh.
The final list of 75 sites is the result of a rigorous selection process. Initially, the MC had sought approval for a much larger number of 159 unipole sites. However, after thorough on-ground inspections and feasibility assessments conducted by the UT's urban planning department, the list was refined to the current 51 new sites. Senior officials from both the municipal corporation and the planning department worked in close coordination to finalize these viable locations.
High-Level Coordination and Expected Market Response
This important decision was not taken lightly. Sources indicate that it followed multiple high-level meetings involving key officials such as the UT Administrator, the Chief Secretary, and the Municipal Commissioner, underscoring the project's significance for the city's finances.
To ensure the tender process is robust and attractive, the MC has already conducted a pre-bid meeting. This session was held to incorporate valuable suggestions and feedback from potential bidders. Given the scale of the opportunity and the prime locations on offer, the corporation anticipates strong competition among advertising firms and agencies when the bids are opened.
