Gurgaon's Missing Road Link Construction Finally Starts After 10 Years

Gurgaon's Long-Awaited Road Project Finally Moves Forward After Decade of Delays

In a significant development for Gurgaon's infrastructure, construction has finally begun on the crucial missing link of the master road dividing sectors 88 and 89. This 350-meter stretch, stalled for over a decade, will create a direct connection to Pataudi Road, establishing another vital corridor between the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway (NH-8) and Pataudi Road.

Land Acquisition Dispute Resolved After Years of Legal Battles

The road project faced prolonged delays primarily due to land acquisition issues involving a private manufacturing unit situated along the proposed alignment. The partially constructed road had ended abruptly at the unit's boundary for years, creating a significant connectivity gap. The matter escalated to the Punjab and Haryana High Court after the manufacturing unit challenged the land acquisition process.

Although the court initially advised both parties to seek an amicable resolution, the issue remained deadlocked until last year. The breakthrough came in 2025 when Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) formally transferred the required land parcel to the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), clearing the final obstacle for the project's completion.

Project Details and Accelerated Timeline

The revived project has been awarded at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore. While the official deadline is set for September, officials have indicated that concerted efforts are underway to complete the work within six months. Due to persistent land availability constraints, a minor realignment of the remaining portion was necessary to move the project forward.

"HSVP has agreed to realign the proposed sewer line that previously fell along the road alignment," explained a GMDA official. "With this adjustment, all remaining hurdles have been successfully removed. Tree removal operations have been completed, and construction activities have officially commenced. We are actively working to finish the project ahead of the established schedule."

Integration Challenges and Future Planning

Regarding connectivity with internal roads of sectors 88A and 89A, officials acknowledged that the recent realignment necessitates a revised traffic design approach. "Due to the slight modification in road alignment, we need to carefully plan connectivity to sectors 88A and 89A," the official added. "This will likely involve implementing a roundabout intersection or another optimal solution. We plan to engage a specialized consultant to ensure seamless integration between the master road and sector internal roads."

Expected Benefits and Community Response

Once completed, the 60-meter-wide master road is anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity between NH-8, sectors 82 to 89, and Pataudi Road. This improvement is expected to ease movement for residents and commuters in the new sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, reducing travel time and congestion in the rapidly developing area.

Local residents have welcomed the development while emphasizing the importance of proper integration with internal sector roads. "People have waited patiently for years for this missing link to be completed," said Manoj Shekhawat, a resident of Sector 88A. "For the project to achieve its full potential and effectiveness, it must be seamlessly connected to the internal roads of sectors 88A and 89A. Only then will it create a truly continuous corridor between the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and the newly constructed Gurgaon-Pataudi-Rewari highway."

The commencement of construction marks the end of a protracted infrastructure delay that has affected connectivity in Gurgaon's expanding sectors. The resolution of the land acquisition dispute through judicial intervention and administrative cooperation between HSVP and GMDA has paved the way for this critical infrastructure project that will benefit thousands of residents and daily commuters in the region.
