The Karnataka government has sought Rs 1,000 crore from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to finance crucial road infrastructure projects in Bengaluru. This decision was finalized during a Cabinet meeting on June 3, shortly after DK Shivakumar assumed office as Chief Minister.
Funding for Urban Mobility
The allocated funds are intended to support the development and upgrade of major road networks across the city. The initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in Bengaluru, which has been grappling with rapid urbanization and infrastructure challenges.
Cabinet Approval Process
According to sources, the Cabinet discussed the proposal and approved the request, emphasizing the need for timely execution of projects. The BDA, which manages land and infrastructure development in the city, will provide the funds from its reserves.
This move underscores the government's focus on improving urban infrastructure under the new leadership. Officials anticipate that the projects will be completed within a stipulated timeline to deliver tangible benefits to commuters.
The BDA has been directed to prioritize road widening, junction improvements, and the construction of flyovers in high-traffic areas. The government expects these measures to reduce travel time and boost economic activity in the region.
