Noida's Long-Awaited Bhangel Elevated Road Finally Opens for Trial
The Noida Authority has taken a significant step toward easing traffic congestion in the bustling city by opening the six-lane Bhangel elevated road for trial operations. This crucial infrastructure project, which had been in the works for five years, was officially made available for testing on Tuesday, marking a milestone in the city's urban development efforts.
Project Specifications and Strategic Importance
Constructed at a substantial cost of Rs 608.08 crore, this impressive 4.5-kilometer elevated stretch represents one of the Authority's most ambitious infrastructure initiatives. The road strategically passes above several congested market areas along the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Marg, which has long been recognized as one of Noida's most traffic-heavy corridors.
The elevated corridor serves as a vital transportation link, extending from Vikas Marg in Noida's Sector 51 all the way to the Noida Special Economic Zone (NSEZ). This positioning makes it an essential connector between Noida and surrounding areas including Greater Noida, Dadri, and Surajpur. The project also links numerous densely populated urban villages such as Sadarpur, Chhalera, Agahpur, Barola, Salarpur, and Bhangel itself.
Connectivity Benefits and Residential Impact
The Bhangel elevated road promises to transform connectivity patterns across the region. It functions as a critical bridge between industrial and residential sectors, specifically benefiting Sectors 40, 41, 43, 47, 48, 49, 82, 88, 101, 106, 107, and Phase 2 of Noida.
According to Vijay Rawal, Deputy General Manager of the Civil Works Department at Noida Authority, the elevated corridor is expected to benefit at least 2 lakh people living in Greater Noida and surrounding areas. He emphasized the significant time savings for commuters, particularly noting that "a large number of labourers stay in Phase 2 and NSEZ. Their travel time will be reduced from 35-40 minutes to just five minutes."
Project Timeline and Acceleration Efforts
The project journey began in June 2020 with the primary objective of addressing chronic congestion that had plagued the route for years. Originally, the inauguration was scheduled for December 2022, but the project experienced delays that pushed the timeline beyond initial expectations.
Vijay Rawal explained the turnaround: "The project was progressing slowly until mid-2023. After taking charge, Chief Executive Officer Dr Lokesh M expedited work through regular inspections and close monitoring, enabling the Authority to complete the long-awaited structure."
With trial operations now underway, authorities are conducting necessary assessments before opening the route to the general public. Once fully operational, the elevated corridor is anticipated to dramatically reduce travel time and alleviate pressure on ground-level traffic, bringing much-needed relief to daily commuters and transforming the transportation experience in one of Noida's busiest sectors.
