Pune Elevated Corridor Project Faces Four-Year Construction Timeline

The Maharashtra government has delivered disappointing news for daily commuters traveling between Talegaon, Chakan, and Shikrapur. During a session in the legislative council on Wednesday, authorities confirmed that the much-anticipated elevated corridor passing through this industrial belt will require at least four years for completion.

Legislative Council Discussion Highlights Commuter Woes

The issue of prolonged road construction delays affecting connectivity to Dehu town and villages in Khed tehsil came under scrutiny when Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Sachin Ahir raised concerns about the infrastructure project's extended timeline. Ahir specifically demanded that the state government convene a meeting between concerned officials and elected representatives to address the mounting difficulties faced by commuters due to the protracted road work.

Government Response and Project Details

Responding to the inquiry, Minister of State for Public Works Department Indranil Naik provided detailed clarification about the project's status and timeline. "The Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor is being developed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), and the entire project will be completed within the next four years," Naik stated in the legislative council.

The minister further explained that while the tender process is currently underway, actual construction work is expected to commence in May or June of this year. He provided a breakdown of the construction phases:

  • The elevated road component will require the full four-year timeline for completion
  • Road work at ground level beneath the elevated structure is projected to finish within one to two years

Infrastructure Specifications and Interim Measures

Naik also disclosed specific details about the corridor's design and capacity. The section from Shikrapur to Chakan will feature six lanes, while the stretch from Chakan to Talegaon will have four lanes at ground level with a six-lane elevated road above it.

Recognizing the inconvenience to commuters during the extended construction period, the minister assured that "the government will organize a meeting between officials and elected representatives to address immediate issues and provide necessary temporary infrastructure until the corridor work is completed."

This development means residents and industrial workers in the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor must prepare for continued traffic disruptions as the ambitious infrastructure project moves forward on its four-year timeline. The elevated corridor represents a significant investment in Pune's transportation network but comes with substantial short-term inconvenience for the region's commuters.
