Full Purple Line services restored after technical snag

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) resumed full operations on the Purple Line on Wednesday morning, a day after a technical snag near MG Road station caused widespread disruption and chaos for commuters. The issue, which occurred around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, forced trains to run on a single line between Baiyappanahalli and Mysore Road stations, leading to significant delays and overcrowding.

Disruption details and commuter impact

The snag involved a signaling failure that affected train movements on the east-west corridor. BMRCL officials confirmed that trains were delayed by up to 30 minutes during peak evening hours. Commuters reported long queues at platforms and packed coaches. A BMRCL spokesperson stated, “We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Our teams worked through the night to rectify the issue.” The disruption affected thousands of daily passengers who rely on the Purple Line for their commute.

Restoration efforts and normalcy

By Wednesday morning, BMRCL announced that all trains were running on schedule. The corporation deployed additional staff to manage crowd flow and ensure smooth operations. The Purple Line, which connects Whitefield to Kengeri, is one of the busiest corridors in Bengaluru, carrying over 3 lakh passengers daily. BMRCL has assured commuters that a detailed analysis of the incident will be conducted to prevent future occurrences.
