Piyush Goyal Urges Businesses to Leverage India-US Trade Portal for Enhanced Bilateral Commerce

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has made a strong appeal to businesses and exporters in both India and the United States to actively engage with the newly launched India-US trade facilitation portal. Speaking via a video message at the portal's launch event on Wednesday, Goyal emphasized the platform's potential to significantly strengthen bilateral trade relations between the two economic powerhouses.

A Call to Action for Industry Stakeholders

In his address, Minister Goyal specifically urged members of industry bodies, Export Promotion Councils, and chambers of commerce from across India and the US to integrate the portal into their business operations. "I urge all members of industry bodies, Export Promotion Councils, and chambers from across India and the US to connect, make this portal part of your business and help turn it into a powerful engine for India-US trade," Goyal stated emphatically.

He described the portal as a crucial "runway" that will enable domestic services exporters to effectively enter and expand within the US market. The minister highlighted that this digital platform offers diverse opportunities spanning multiple sectors, creating pathways for various Indian industries to access American markets.

Portal to Benefit Diverse Sectors Across India

The trade facilitation portal is designed to serve a wide spectrum of Indian exporters, including:

  • Farmers from agricultural regions like Punjab
  • Jewellery manufacturers and artisans from traditional hubs like Surat
  • Software professionals and IT companies based in technology centers like Bengaluru
  • Pharmaceutical firms operating in states like Telangana

This comprehensive approach ensures that businesses across different geographical regions and industrial sectors can leverage the portal to enhance their export capabilities to the United States.

Progress Toward Ambitious Trade Targets

Minister Goyal also provided an optimistic update on the bilateral trade relationship between India and the United States. He confirmed that trade between the two nations is steadily progressing toward the ambitious $500 billion target that both countries have jointly established. This target represents a significant milestone in the economic partnership between the world's largest democracy and one of its most important trading partners.

Official Launch and High-Level Participation

The India-US trade facilitation portal was formally launched by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during his three-day official visit to the United States. The launch event was conducted virtually and witnessed participation from several high-ranking officials and trade representatives from both nations.

Key attendees included India's Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, along with numerous government officials and business representatives from both countries. This high-level participation underscores the strategic importance both governments place on enhancing trade facilitation mechanisms between their economies.

The portal represents a concrete step toward simplifying trade processes, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and creating more transparent channels for businesses seeking to engage in cross-border commerce between India and the United States.
