Indian Carriers Resume Long-Haul Flights with Strategic Rerouting
Indian airlines have initiated a phased resumption of long-haul and ultra-long-haul flight operations by implementing strategic rerouting to circumvent restricted airspace zones. This move comes as part of coordinated efforts to restore normalcy in international air travel while prioritizing passenger safety and operational efficiency.
Current Flight Operations and Future Plans
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian carriers are operating a total of 24 flights today. Additionally, Emirates and Etihad have conducted nine flights from the Gulf region within the last 24 hours, demonstrating limited but continued international connectivity.
The ministry has outlined ambitious plans for Wednesday, with Indian airlines scheduled to operate 58 flights. This includes 30 services by IndiGo and 23 by Air India and Air India Express combined. Airlines are deploying additional capacity where necessary and working in close coordination with foreign aviation authorities and Indian missions abroad to ensure safe and orderly passenger movement.
Special Arrangements for Stranded Passengers
Special arrangements are being implemented to assist passengers stranded abroad due to recent disruptions. The civil aviation ministry emphasized that ensuring passenger safety remains the top priority, with all airlines instructed to maintain transparent communication channels.
"Passenger safety remains paramount. All airlines have been advised to maintain transparent communication with passengers and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements concerning refunds, rescheduling, and passenger assistance," stated the ministry in an official release.
Monitoring and Coordination Efforts
The ministry has intensified monitoring of airfares to prevent any undue surge in ticket prices during this period of route adjustments and operational challenges. Passengers are strongly advised to check the latest flight status directly with their respective airlines before proceeding to airports and to rely exclusively on official sources for updates.
Continuous coordination is maintained with multiple stakeholders including:
- Airlines and airport operators
- Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
- Ministry of External Affairs
This collaborative approach aims to restore normal operations smoothly and facilitate affected passengers efficiently. The ministry confirmed that further updates will be issued as necessary based on evolving circumstances.
Flight Cancellation Statistics
To date, the ongoing situation has resulted in significant flight cancellations:
- 1,221 flights by Indian carriers
- 388 flights by foreign carriers
Foreign airlines operating between India and the Gulf region continue to provide limited services, though these remain subject to operational constraints and airspace restrictions that affect routing and scheduling.
