New Mangalore Port Maintains Steady Fuel Inflow Despite Geopolitical Tensions

Amid the ongoing disruptions triggered by the West Asia crisis, New Mangalore Port is poised for a consistent influx of crude oil and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessels throughout this week. This development offers a crucial respite to fuel supply chains that have been strained by geopolitical tensions in the region.

Russian Tanker Alters Course to Deliver Crude

The Russian tanker Aqua Titan, chartered by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), successfully completed its crude operations on Sunday. Originally sailing from Primorsk to Rizhao, the vessel made a mid-journey course alteration in Southeast Asia to dock at New Mangalore Port. It unloaded a substantial 96,099.8 tonnes of crude oil at MRPL's Single Mooring Point, highlighting the port's strategic role in India's energy imports.

Multiple Consignments Scheduled for MRPL

According to sources from the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), MRPL is set to receive several key deliveries in the coming days:

  • Oasis is scheduled to deliver 99,900 tonnes of crude oil on Monday.
  • On Tuesday, Bourbon will bring 20,000 tonnes of Aviation Turbine Fuel (L) (ATF(L)).
  • Also on Tuesday, Qiu Chi will arrive with 35,000 tonnes of Motor Spirit (L) (MS(L)).

LPG Supplies Begin Arriving

The flow of LPG has also commenced, with the Singapore-flagged Pyxis Pioneer berthing on Sunday morning. This vessel departed from the Port of Nederland, Texas, on February 14 and is currently unloading 16,714 tonnes of LPG for Aegis Logistics Limited. It is scheduled to sail on Monday, marking a timely addition to India's energy reserves.

Further Fuel Cargoes Lined Up

Additional consignments are queued for arrival, ensuring continued port activity:

  1. Blage is expected on Tuesday with 30,600 tonnes of MS and High-speed Diesel (HSD) for Nayara Energy.
  2. Another LPG carrier, Apollo Ocean, is slated to arrive on Wednesday with supplies for Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, as per NMPA's daily vessel position report.

Port Activity Set to Increase

With multiple vessels scheduled, port operations are anticipated to intensify over the next few days. A source from NMPA noted that this surge in activity provides some relief to fuel supply chains that have been adversely affected by the geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The steady inflow of crude and LPG underscores the port's resilience and its critical function in maintaining India's energy security during global crises.
