South Central Railway Enhances Safety with Fog Safe Device Deployment in Nanded Division
In a significant move to bolster railway safety, the Nanded division of the South Central Railway (SCR) has introduced the Fog Safe Device (FSD) for loco pilots. This initiative aims to strengthen train operations, particularly during challenging weather conditions.
Advanced Technology for Low Visibility Conditions
A total of 153 high-tech Fog Safe Devices have been distributed across the division. These devices are designed to assist loco pilots and assistant loco pilots when visibility is reduced due to fog or other adverse weather.
Rajesh Shinde, chief publicity inspector of SCR's Nanded division, explained the functionality of the FSD: "The Fog Safe Device is an advanced safety tool that delivers timely audible and visual alerts to railway staff. It warns about critical signals, level crossings, neutral sections, and other important points along the route. This early warning system allows our personnel to take necessary precautions and maintain safe control of the train, thereby enhancing overall railway safety."
Comprehensive Coverage for All Trains
The SCR authorities have confirmed that these devices will be utilized across all types of trains, including goods trains. This comprehensive approach ensures that railway operations within the division become safer and more reliable.
Shinde further emphasized the importance of this initiative: "We expect this measure to significantly improve railway safety during adverse weather conditions and strengthen the reliability of our operations. It is mandatory for all loco crew members to carry the Fog Safe Device when reporting for duty."
Key Benefits of the Fog Safe Device
- Provides audible and visual warnings for signals and crossings
- Enables early detection of potential hazards
- Helps maintain safe train control in low visibility
- Covers all trains, including freight services
- Enhances overall operational reliability
The deployment of these 153 Fog Safe Devices marks a proactive step by the South Central Railway to address safety concerns in the Nanded division. By leveraging advanced technology, the railway aims to minimize risks associated with foggy conditions and ensure smoother, safer journeys for all.
