Sirmaur exports cross Rs 3,200 crore, charts global roadmap

Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone, with exports crossing the Rs 3,200-crore mark in the fiscal year 2024-25. This reinforces its position as one of the fastest-growing industrial and export hubs in the state. The district is now focusing on expanding its global footprint by promoting GI-tagged traditional products and premium horticultural produce, alongside strengthening its manufacturing base.

Export Growth Trajectory

Official data reveals a steady increase in exports from Rs 2,097.56 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 2,705.21 crore in 2022-23, Rs 2,841.12 crore in 2023-24, and approximately Rs 3,200 crore in 2024-25. This growth has been driven by industrial clusters at Kala Amb, Paonta Sahib, Dhaula Kuan, and the emerging Sataun growth corridor, which have become major contributors to the state's manufacturing economy.

Key Export Sectors

Pharmaceuticals continue to dominate exports, supported by textiles, engineering goods, medical devices, adhesives, fragrances, and mineral-based products. Companies such as Sun Pharma, Mankind Pharma, Sai Corporation, Pioneer Embroideries, Laborate Pharmaceuticals, Rajshree Fabrics, Blue Star, Pidilite Industries, Ideal Medical Devices, and Tirupati Group firms are exporting medicines, pharmaceutical formulations, perfumes, textile yarn, non-woven fabrics, medical devices, engineering products, and industrial equipment to various countries, according to latest quarterly figures for 2025-26.

Horticultural and Traditional Product Expansion

The district is also preparing to expand exports of horticultural produce. Rajgarh peaches, plums, walnuts, kinnow, sweet oranges, galgal, garlic, and processed fruit products have been identified as commodities with strong export potential. Rajgarh, known as the "Peach Bowl of India," is expected to lead this expansion. Additionally, the GI-tagged Sirmauri Loiya will be promoted for commercial production, while GI registration of Sirmaur ginger has been completed and official approval is awaited. Officials noted that its low fibre content and high oleoresin value make it suitable for food processing and pharmaceutical industries.

Infrastructure and Policy Support

The roadmap was reviewed at a meeting of the District Export Promotion Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma. She directed departments to identify new exporters, remove regulatory bottlenecks, and strengthen the export ecosystem through better logistics, digital clearances, and improved market access. A proposal has also been submitted to the Government of India to establish a 388-bigha industrial estate at Kala Amb under the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna, aiming to attract investment, expand manufacturing, and generate employment. General Manager, District Industries Centre, Rachit Sharma, coordinated the meeting, while Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade Aditya Chauhan presented export promotion initiatives.
