SpiceJet Flight Makes Precautionary Emergency Landing in Kolkata
A SpiceJet aircraft operating as flight SG670 from Mumbai to Kolkata was forced to execute a precautionary emergency landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata on Sunday night. The decision was taken after the pilot detected a technical abnormality in one of the plane's engines while cruising mid-air.
Timeline of the Incident and Safe Landing
The flight, which was carrying more than 188 passengers and crew members, landed safely at the Kolkata airport at approximately 11:38 pm. Officials confirmed that the pilot had declared a full emergency as a standard precautionary measure. The issue was reportedly identified just as the aircraft was preparing to begin its descent into Kolkata.
Immediately upon being alerted by the pilot, the Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Kolkata was informed. In response, the airport authorities activated a full emergency protocol, putting all emergency and rescue services on high alert until the aircraft touched down without any incident.
Passenger Safety and Aftermath
All passengers and crew onboard the SpiceJet flight were confirmed to be safe following the landing. The full emergency status at the airport was withdrawn shortly after the plane came to a halt. It has also emerged that the flight had experienced a significant delay prior to the incident, departing from Mumbai at 9:07 pm instead of its originally scheduled time of 7:10 pm, resulting in a delay of nearly two hours.
As of now, SpiceJet has not released an official statement regarding the technical snag or the emergency landing procedure. The incident highlights the critical importance of pilot training and safety protocols in ensuring passenger security during unforeseen technical difficulties.
