Trichy Railway Division Targets 3,000 MT Freight by 2030

Trichy: The Trichy railway division has set its sights on substantially increasing its annual freight capacity as part of a national effort to achieve a freight loading capacity of 3,000 million tonnes by the year 2030. This ambitious target was discussed during a business development meeting convened by the division on Thursday, where officials reviewed projected traffic volumes for the financial year 2026-27.

Focus on Enhancing Rail Freight Share

Addressing the participants, Balak Ram Negi, the Divisional Railway Manager, underscored the critical importance of raising the railway coefficient in freight transportation. He elaborated on ‘Mission 3000', a flagship strategic initiative of Indian Railways, which aims to elevate the freight loading capacity to 3,000 million tonnes by 2030. Negi also pointed out that this initiative is closely aligned with the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047', a comprehensive plan to transform India into a developed nation by 2047 through rapid infrastructure development and sustained economic growth.

Assurances to Customers and Stakeholder Participation

Negi assured the customers that the division would carefully examine all suggestions provided by them and extend every possible support to facilitate enhanced freight loading in the coming year. The meeting saw active participation from representatives of key organizations, including Karaikal Port Private Limited, IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power Company Limited, Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Paper Limited, KRIBHCO Fertilizer Limited, and several cement companies such as Dalmia Cements, India Cements, Ramco Cements, and Tamil Nadu Cements. Additionally, officials from the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation representing the districts of Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai, along with representatives from the Central Warehouse Corporation in Trichy, were also present.
