The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the results for Class 12 examinations on Wednesday, revealing a dip in performance for Tamil Nadu and the Chennai region compared to the previous year.
State Performance
Tamil Nadu recorded a pass percentage of 95.25, securing the fourth rank nationally, behind only Lakshadweep, Goa, and Kerala. This marks a decline from the 98.48% pass rate achieved in 2025. Statewide, 83,962 students out of 88,146 who appeared for the examination successfully passed.
Chennai Region Performance
The Chennai region, which encompasses parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, recorded a pass percentage of 93.84, a drop from 97.39% in the previous year. In this region, 95,979 students out of 1,02,284 cleared the exams.
Gender Performance
Girls outperformed boys both statewide and in the Chennai region, achieving a pass percentage exceeding 95%.
School Category Analysis
Among different school categories, Kendriya Vidyalayas topped the Chennai region with a pass percentage of 99.12, with 3,377 out of 3,407 students passing. Independent (private) schools recorded a pass percentage of 95.13, while government schools achieved 80.96% and aided schools secured 71.08%.
Supplementary Exams
Supplementary examinations are scheduled to commence on July 15. Candidates who have passed the board exam but wish to improve their marks in one subject, as well as those placed in the compartment category, are eligible to take the compartment exam. Applications for the compartment exam will be opened at a later date.
