The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated the post-result process for Class XII students who wish to access their evaluated answer sheets, verify marks, or request re-evaluation. This follows the declaration of board examination results earlier this month, where the overall pass percentage dropped to 85.20% from last year's 88.39%.
Why This Process Matters This Year
CBSE has acknowledged the possibility of evaluation errors during the checking of approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts. The board's Controller of Examinations, Sanyam Bhardwaj, stated in an interview that given the volume of scripts, errors may occur. This makes the post-result process crucial for students seeking transparency and accuracy in their scores.
Step 1: Apply for Evaluated Answer Sheet Copies
Students must first obtain copies of their evaluated answer scripts through the official CBSE portal. The application window opens from May 19 to May 22. Students can log in using their board examination credentials and select the subjects for which they want copies. CBSE has clarified that this stage is mandatory before proceeding to verification or re-evaluation requests.
Step 2: Review Answer Sheets Carefully
After receiving the evaluated answer sheets, students should carefully examine all pages, totals, unchecked answers, and awarded marks. CBSE has stated that this process is intended to improve transparency and allow students to independently review evaluation details. Students are expected to identify discrepancies before applying for further correction.
Step 3: Apply for Verification or Re-evaluation
Students who identify discrepancies can apply for verification, discrepancy reporting, or re-evaluation from May 26 to May 29. A panel of experts will examine the reported concerns, and if an evaluation error is confirmed, corrections will be made accordingly. Bhardwaj noted that revised scores may either increase or decrease depending on the outcome.
Important Considerations for Students
CBSE advises students to apply only after carefully reviewing their answer sheets. Students should keep copies of submitted applications and payment receipts for future reference during the verification process. It is imperative to note that if correction of an error results in a lower score, the student's marks will be reduced accordingly.
CBSE has also extended counselling support after Class 12 results, with a helpline available until June 1. This initiative aims to assist students in navigating the post-result process and addressing any concerns.
With the board evaluating approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts annually, the post-result process ensures that students have the opportunity to seek transparency and accuracy in their evaluation. By following these steps, students can effectively address any discrepancies in their marks.
