Gujarat Student Nimay Purohit Tops State in JEE Main with Perfect Percentile
In a remarkable achievement, Nimay Purohit, a student from Rajkot, has secured the top position in Gujarat for the IIT-Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, as per the results announced on Monday. He attained the highest possible score, placing him in the 100th percentile, with an impressive tally of 291 marks out of 300. This exceptional performance highlights his dedication and strategic approach to one of India's most competitive engineering entrance tests.
Exam Participation and Family Background
Approximately 50,000 students from Gujarat participated in the JEE Main examination conducted in January, which serves as a gateway for admissions to prestigious institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs). Nimay, a student at Innovative International School, comes from a family of healthcare professionals; his parents, Darshana and Harshal Purohit, are both physiotherapists. Adding to the family's academic success, his twin sister, Niya, also performed outstandingly, achieving a score in the 98.3 percentile.
Nimay's Journey and Future Aspirations
Reflecting on his preparation, Nimay shared that he began coaching for the JEE in Class 9, while his sister started a year earlier in Class 8. Despite his parents' background in healthcare, he was drawn to engineering due to his strong foundation in mathematics and a keen interest in innovation. "I intend to score well in JEE Advanced and secure admission in computer science engineering at IIT Bombay," he stated, outlining his ambitious goals for the future.
Nimay expressed confidence in his performance, noting that he had answered most questions correctly. "I had doubts about only two marks — one I left and another I got wrong in mathematics and chemistry. But I was not sure that I would top the state. The feeling is yet to sink in," he admitted. To further enhance his score, he plans to appear for the second attempt in April, viewing it as a learning experience.
Balanced Preparation Strategy Defies Norms
Contrary to common practices among JEE aspirants, Nimay did not adhere to strict rules such as avoiding social media or studying incessantly. He emphasized that a focused study plan of about six hours daily can yield excellent results. "Dedicated study of about six hours a day can do the trick, provided you have a clear-cut plan. I did not miss playtime or school hours either. I gave myself allocated time daily to pursue interests," he explained, advocating for a balanced lifestyle.
His preparation strategy was methodical, focusing heavily on the NCERT syllabus and thoroughly analyzing past years' exam patterns and questions. This approach allowed him to build a solid understanding of key concepts while managing his time effectively.
Nimay Purohit's success story serves as an inspiration to many aspiring engineers, demonstrating that with smart planning and a balanced routine, achieving top ranks in competitive exams is attainable without sacrificing personal well-being.
