The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination after confirming that leaked question papers circulated on WhatsApp prior to the test were authentic. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh announced the decision on May 12, 2026, following a thorough investigation triggered by a whistleblower tip-off on May 7.
Leak Verification and Investigation
Investigators discovered that PDFs containing questions identical to the actual exam paper were already available on mobile phones before the May 3 test. The leak was verified by comparing the circulated material with the official question paper, which showed a complete match. Singh described the incident as a blatant violation of the NTA's zero-tolerance policy against malpractices.
Action Taken
The matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further legal action. The NTA has assured students that a re-examination will be conducted fairly and transparently. Candidates will not be charged any additional fee, and full refunds will be provided for the cancelled exam.
This decision aims to uphold the integrity of the medical entrance process and ensure that deserving students are not disadvantaged. The NTA has urged students to remain patient and await the official schedule for the re-exam.
