NTA Confirms NEET-UG 2026 Re-exam Results Imminent

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the results of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination will be declared shortly, bringing relief to over 20 lakh candidates who have been waiting for their scores. The announcement came on June 30, 2026, following the release of the provisional answer key earlier this month.

Key Change in Answer Key: One Physics Question Dropped

In a significant move, the NTA decided to drop one question from the Physics section of the provisional answer key. This decision was made after expert review found the question to be ambiguous or erroneous. As a result, all candidates will receive full marks for that particular question, regardless of their response.

Impact on Score Calculation and Merit List

The removal of the Physics question means the maximum possible marks in the exam have been reduced from 720 to 716. This adjustment will affect the normalization process and the final merit list. The NTA has assured candidates that the evaluation methodology will be transparent and fair, with detailed scorecards provided after the results are declared.

Background of the NEET-UG 2026 Re-exam

The re-examination was conducted on June 12, 2026, after the original exam faced allegations of paper leaks and irregularities in several states. The Supreme Court ordered the re-test to ensure fairness and integrity in the admissions process for medical and dental courses. Approximately 20 lakh students appeared for the re-exam across 4,000 centers nationwide.

Steps After Results

Once the results are published, candidates can check their scores on the official NTA website using their application number and date of birth. The All India Rank (AIR) will be used for counseling and seat allocation in government and private medical colleges. The NTA has also announced that answer keys and scanned OMR sheets will be available for verification.

According to an NTA official, “The results are being finalized and will be released soon. Candidates are advised to keep checking the official website for updates.” The agency has also set up a helpline to address any queries related to the results.

What Happens Next?

After the results, the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) will begin the centralized counseling process for 15% All India Quota seats. State-level counseling for the remaining 85% seats will follow. The entire admission process is expected to be completed by September 2026, in time for the academic session.
