NEET UG 2026: Shift to Computer-Based Test Mode

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a significant change for the NEET UG 2026 examination. Starting from 2026, the medical entrance exam will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode, replacing the traditional pen-and-paper format. This shift aims to streamline the examination process and enhance efficiency.

Key Changes in NEET UG 2026

According to the official notification, the NEET UG 2026 will be held in two shifts on a single day. The CBT mode will allow for faster result processing and reduced chances of errors. Candidates will be required to answer multiple-choice questions on a computer interface.

Exam Pattern

The exam pattern remains unchanged with 180 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology). Each correct answer awards 4 marks, while incorrect answers deduct 1 mark. The total duration is 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Important Dates

The application process is expected to begin in December 2025, with the exam likely scheduled for May 2026. The NTA will release the official information brochure on its website.

Students are advised to familiarize themselves with the CBT format by practicing on the NTA's mock test portal. This change is part of ongoing efforts to modernize entrance examinations in India.
