BSTC Exam Fraud: Accused Paid Up to Rs 30,000 for Impersonation in 2019-2020 Tests

In a major development in the BSTC exam fraud case, the arrested accused have admitted to paying between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 to dummy candidates to appear on their behalf in the 2019 and 2020 entrance examinations, police revealed on Tuesday.

Police Intensify Probe with Financial Scrutiny

A day after the arrests, the police's Special Operations Group (SOG) has ramped up its investigation by meticulously examining the bank accounts of the accused to uncover the money trail. Additional Director General (ADG) of SOG, Vishal Bansal, stated that the financial transactions of those arrested are currently under detailed analysis.

"Our preliminary findings indicate that the accused disbursed amounts ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 to dummy candidates to ensure they cleared the exams," Bansal said. "We are also planning to interrogate them further to determine if similar fraudulent methods were employed in other competitive examinations."

Coordinated Crackdown Leads to Multiple Arrests

In a well-coordinated operation, the SOG apprehended 12 individuals allegedly connected to an organised cheating syndicate. The case traces back to February 2021, when a suspect was detained in Pali district with documents that pointed to impersonation in the BSTC exam.

Recent raids conducted on April 4 and 5 this year across multiple districts resulted in these latest arrests, marking a significant step in dismantling the syndicate.

Key Details of the Investigation

  • The accused confessed to paying dummy candidates Rs 25,000-30,000 for impersonation.
  • Police are scrutinising bank accounts to trace financial transactions.
  • The SOG arrested 12 people linked to the cheating syndicate.
  • The case originated in February 2021 with a detention in Pali district.
