The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Bhubaneswar announced on Wednesday that the Annual Higher Secondary Improvement Examination for 2026 will be conducted alongside the Instant examination on July 3 and 4. This marks the first time the council will hold the Improvement examination for Class XII students of the state board, allowing them to enhance their grades in one subject. Meanwhile, the Instant examination has been a regular feature for students who have failed in one subject each year.
Examination Fees and Eligibility
According to the CHSE notification, students must pay a fee of Rs 800 for the Improvement examination and Rs 600 for the Instant examination. The Improvement exam is open to regular students who registered in the 2024-25 academic session across arts, commerce, science, and vocational education streams. Additionally, students from distance education who have cleared the Annual Higher Secondary Examination (state Class XII boards) are eligible to appear for the Improvement exam in one theory subject, which can be from compulsory, elective, or trade subjects.
Instant Examination Criteria
Students who have secured pass marks with an aggregate of 210 marks but either failed or remained absent from one paper (theory or practical component) in the annual examination are eligible to sit for the Instant examination. This exam can be taken in either theory or practicals, providing a second chance for those who narrowly missed passing all subjects.
This initiative by CHSE aims to offer flexibility and support to students seeking to improve their academic performance or recover from a single setback. The council has not yet released detailed schedules or application procedures, but further information is expected in the coming weeks.
