Pradhan Chairs NEET-UG Re-exam Review Meeting

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to assess preparations for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination. The session was conducted to ensure that all logistical and administrative arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the exam.

Joint Leadership and Oversight

The meeting was jointly chaired by Dr Radhakrishnan, who heads the High-Powered Steering Committee constituted to monitor the implementation of reforms recommended for the National Testing Agency (NTA). This committee was established following concerns over irregularities in the previous exam cycle.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, NTA, and other stakeholder departments participated in the deliberations. Key agenda items included security protocols, question paper handling, and center management to prevent any malpractices.

Focus on Reform Implementation

Dr Radhakrishnan emphasized the need for strict adherence to the new guidelines proposed by the steering committee. These reforms aim to enhance transparency and efficiency in the examination process. The committee has recommended several measures, including digital monitoring of test centers and centralized question paper distribution.

Minister Pradhan reiterated the government's commitment to conducting a fair and unbiased examination. He directed officials to ensure that all candidates receive equal opportunities and that the re-exam is conducted without any technical glitches.

Background and Context

The NEET-UG re-exam was ordered after reports of paper leaks and other irregularities surfaced from the earlier test held in May 2026. The Supreme Court had directed the NTA to conduct a fresh examination for affected candidates. The High-Powered Steering Committee was formed to oversee the implementation of reforms and restore trust in the examination system.

Over 1.5 million students are expected to appear for the re-exam, which will be held across multiple centers nationwide. The meeting also reviewed the preparedness of state authorities and coordination with law enforcement agencies to maintain security during the test.
