The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Central Region cancelled multiple shifts of the Constable General Duty (GD) Examination 2026 in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh due to technical issues, triggering widespread protests from angry aspirants. The decision came after it was discovered that the number of candidates exceeded the actual seating capacity at several exam centres.
Protests and Vandalism
Viral visuals from the affected centres showed furious students shouting slogans and vandalising property amid extreme heat conditions. In Muzaffarpur, Bihar, two shifts were cancelled, while a centre in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, faced similar disruptions earlier this month. The protests highlighted the frustration of candidates who had travelled long distances for the examination.
Official Response
The SSC has assured that rescheduled examinations will be conducted for the affected candidates, and fresh admit cards will be issued. The commission stated that the cancellations were necessary due to unforeseen technical glitches and logistical challenges. However, the incident has once again raised serious concerns about the management of India’s competitive examinations, with critics pointing to inadequate planning and infrastructure.
As temperatures soared, students were seen demanding immediate action and accountability from the authorities. The SSC has promised a thorough review to prevent such incidents in the future.
