Goa's Converge 3.0 Initiative Bridges Colleges and Tech Industry for Student Employment

In a significant move to enhance graduate employability, the Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) in Goa has launched a tech job drive as part of its Converge 3.0 campaign. This initiative, running throughout February, aims to directly link colleges with the technology sector, ensuring students not only earn degrees but also secure meaningful employment opportunities.

Massive Student and Company Participation in Job Drive

Officials have reported robust participation, with 1,150 students registering for the job drive so far. On the industry side, 30 technology companies have stepped forward to scout for potential recruits, highlighting the strong demand for skilled talent in Goa's growing tech ecosystem.

The DHE has forged a strategic partnership with the Goa Technology Association (GTA) to facilitate this collaboration. Bhushan Savaikar, Director of Higher Education, emphasized the core objective: "Our goal is to ensure that students from Goa's colleges do not merely graduate but secure employment, bridging the gap between academia and industry."

Pre-Placement Training and Expected Outcomes

To prepare students for the job market, participants received pre-placement soft skills training conducted by Rohit Rajput of CSRBOX, as noted by DHE programme director Niyan Marchon. This training is designed to equip students with essential competencies beyond technical knowledge, enhancing their readiness for professional roles.

Mangirish Salelkar, President of the Goa Technology Association, confirmed that the results of this extensive job drive will be announced by the end of February, providing clarity on placement outcomes and industry engagement.

Building on Previous Success: The Leap AI Hackathon 2026

This job drive follows the earlier success of the Converge initiative, which included the Leap AI Hackathon 2026. Focused on artificial intelligence innovation, the hackathon attracted 150 teams, comprising 300 students, from a diverse range of institutions:

  • 25 general stream colleges
  • 5 engineering colleges
  • NIT Goa

Marchon explained the hackathon's purpose: "It was organised to strengthen student engagement with emerging technologies. The aim was to build awareness and practical skills in artificial intelligence through hands-on learning." Students developed AI-based solutions to real-world problems, fostering creativity and technical proficiency.

Overall, the Converge 3.0 campaign represents a proactive approach by Goa's higher education authorities to align academic programs with industry needs, driving both innovation and employment in the state's technology sector.
