IP University to Use CUET as Secondary Admission Channel for BTech After JEE Main
IPU Adopts CUET as Secondary BTech Admission Channel

IP University Implements CUET as Secondary Admission Pathway for BTech Programmes

In a significant development for engineering aspirants, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) has officially declared that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will be utilized as a secondary channel for admissions to its Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme. This new policy, identified under Programme Code 131, is scheduled to take effect from the academic year 2025–26 onwards.

Official Approval and Implementation Details

The decision has been formalized through an official communication from the Director (Higher Education) of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The approval, bearing Order No. F.No. DHE 4(61)/2010-11/Pt. File/Vol.1/5645-55 and dated 29 October 2025, was granted by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. This strategic move is designed to address the scenario where seats remain vacant after the exhaustion of the JEE Main merit list.

Consequently, CUET scores will now play a crucial role in filling any unallocated seats in the BTech programme. Students aiming for admission to IPU's engineering courses are strongly advised to not only participate in the JEE Main counselling process but also to apply for and appear in the CUET examination to maximize their chances.

Admission Process and Student Guidance

The university has clarified that seats which are not filled through JEE Main scores will be offered based on CUET merit. This ensures a streamlined and fair admission process, providing additional opportunities for candidates. To assist students, detailed information regarding domain-specific subjects and comprehensive admission guidelines is available in the UG admission brochure for 2026–27, which can be accessed on the official IPU website at ipu.ac.in.

This development marks a pivotal step in aligning IPU with centralized national testing standards, while simultaneously broadening the avenues for students to secure admission into its flagship engineering programme. By integrating CUET, the university enhances accessibility and inclusivity in higher education.

Broader University Initiatives and New Programmes

In related news, IPU offers an extensive range of educational opportunities with over 43,000 seats available across more than 130 affiliated colleges and university schools. The online application process for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes is set to commence on February 2, 2026.

Furthermore, for the 2026–27 academic session, IP University has introduced 24 new courses, reflecting its commitment to academic innovation and diversity. These new programmes include:

  • Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)
  • Lateral Entry in B.S. (Packaging Technology)
  • MTech in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
  • MA Mass Communication (Weekend Programme)
  • Additional weekend programmes in select disciplines
  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy
  • BTech in Industrial Chemistry
  • BSc Clinical Psychology
  • BTech in Computer Science Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Data Science)
  • BTech in Computer Science and Business Systems
