The three-year LLB (Hons) programme at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, has emerged as the most sought-after course for the upcoming academic session, with 1,662 candidates applying for just 240 seats. This translates to nearly seven applicants per seat, highlighting the sustained popularity of law education among students in the region.
High Demand for Law Programmes
According to university officials, the LLB course continues to witness the highest demand among all postgraduate and professional programmes offered by the university. The integrated BA LLB course has also attracted strong interest, reflecting a broader shift towards professional degree programmes over traditional academic courses.
Prof. Jaswant Saini, Convenor of the LLB Five-Year Admission Committee, attributed the trend to the diverse career opportunities available in the legal field. "The field of law offers diverse career opportunities in both the government and private sectors, which is why the course has remained in high demand over the years. Besides the three-year LLB programme, the integrated BA LLB course is also witnessing strong demand as an increasing number of students are opting for professional programmes over traditional degree courses," he said.
Overall Application Statistics
The university has received a total of 12,364 online applications for admission to all certificate, diploma, and postgraduate programmes, which together offer 4,710 seats. Among these, several other courses have also seen a healthy response from aspirants.
Sunit Mukherjee, Director (Public Relations) at MDU, provided a breakdown of applications for other popular programmes. "The Faculty of Life Sciences has received 648 applications for its 370 seats, while management programmes have attracted 978 applications for 440 seats. The LLM programme has received 711 applications for 180 seats," he added.
Humanities and Social Sciences Preferences
In the humanities stream, the MA English programme has emerged as one of the most preferred courses, with 483 applications for 60 seats. Within the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Psychology has received 416 applications for 70 seats. These figures indicate a strong interest in both traditional and professional courses among students.
