SDMIMD Unveils 'Vision Mysuru-2050' Initiative to Empower Citizens in City Planning
In a significant move towards participatory urban development, the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) has officially launched a groundbreaking citizen-driven initiative titled 'Vision Mysuru–2050'. This ambitious project, operating under the compelling theme 'Ink Your Ideas', aims to meticulously chart a comprehensive strategic roadmap for the city's evolution and progress over the next quarter-century.
Collaborative Summit and Key Partnerships
Addressing the media on Saturday, Sunil MV, assistant professor at SDMIMD, revealed that a pivotal three-day summit will be conducted from March 14. This event is being organized in strategic collaboration with several prominent organizations, including the Mysuru Grahakara Parishad, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Mysuru chapter, and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Mysuru chapter. These partnerships underscore the initiative's commitment to leveraging diverse expertise and community networks.
Empowering Youth and Civic Engagement
Vision Mysuru–2050 represents a progressive evolution from previous urban planning endeavors by deliberately placing the city's future trajectory directly into the hands of its younger generation and engaged citizens. Conceived as an ongoing and dynamic civic movement, the initiative is designed to systematically transform local observations, grassroots insights, and community aspirations into well-structured, evidence-based proposals. These proposals will subsequently be refined and synthesized into a practical, actionable roadmap that addresses Mysuru's long-term needs and opportunities.
Leadership and Visionary Support
The initiative has garnered high-profile endorsement, with D Veerendra Heggade, the revered Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala and chairman of the SDM Educational Trust, serving as the official brand ambassador. In his remarks, Heggade passionately emphasized the critical importance of foresight, civic responsibility, and collective participation in sculpting a sustainable and prosperous future for Mysuru, highlighting the moral and practical imperatives of community involvement.
Comprehensive Focus Areas and Inclusive Participation
According to MS Shrivathsa, student coordinator at SDMIMD, the initiative will concentrate on a wide array of essential domains crucial for holistic urban development. The key focus areas include:
- Urban infrastructure and mobility enhancements
- Environmental sustainability and green initiatives
- Economic development and job creation strategies
- Digital governance and technological integration
- Education and healthcare system improvements
- Heritage conservation and cultural preservation
- Social equity and inclusive growth measures
- Disaster resilience and preparedness planning
- Tourism promotion and cultural development
Participation is enthusiastically encouraged from all segments of society, including citizens, students, professionals, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Interested contributors can submit their detailed proposals through the official online portal, with the submission deadline firmly set for March 10.
Organizational Backing and Team Presence
The launch event saw the active presence of key organizational figures, including Shrigouri Joshi, the public relations officer at SDMIMD, along with dedicated student coordinators HR Badrinath and R Thejas. Their involvement highlights the institutional commitment and collaborative spirit driving this visionary project forward, ensuring it remains grounded in both academic rigor and practical community engagement.
