Chamarajanagar District's Push for Better II PU Exam Performance

Karnataka's Chamarajanagar District Launches Multi-Pronged Strategy to Enhance II PU Examination Performance

The Department of Pre-University Education in Karnataka has rolled out a comprehensive series of measures aimed at significantly improving the results of the II Pre-University (PU) examinations in Chamarajanagar district for the current academic year. This strategic initiative comes as the district prepares for the upcoming II PU exams, scheduled to be held from February 28 to March 17, with a total of 6,948 students expected to appear across the region.

Addressing Past Performance with Targeted Interventions

In the previous academic year, Chamarajanagar district recorded a pass percentage of 73%, securing the 13th rank in the state. To build upon this foundation and achieve better outcomes, the education department has established a taluk-wise PU Results Improvement Committee. This committee operates across key areas including Kollegal, Hanur, Gundlupet, Yelandur, and Chamarajanagar itself.

The head of this committee has conducted thorough visits to all colleges within these taluks, engaging in detailed reviews of the programs and activities initiated to boost examination performance. These discussions involved college heads and lecturers, ensuring a collaborative approach to academic improvement.

Focused Support for Slow Learners and Enhanced Teaching Methods

A central focus of the taluk-level committee has been on identifying and supporting slow learners. College heads have been strongly encouraged to organize special classes for these students, with subject-wise lecturers providing targeted instruction. Teachers have been directed to adopt such students, offering personalized training and preparation to help them successfully clear their examinations.

In addition to this, principals of all PU colleges have received specific directions to implement several academic enhancements. These include encouraging students to solve previous question papers from the last 10 years, conducting regular monthly tests, promoting group study sessions, and reviewing each student's subject-wise performance to tailor exam preparation strategies.

Rigorous Academic Preparation and Parental Involvement

To ensure thorough readiness, almost all colleges in the district have conducted two tests, two preparatory exams, and mid-term examinations. Students have been advised to concentrate on areas where they performed poorly in these practice papers, enabling them to address weaknesses before the main examination.

The department has also emphasized the importance of parental involvement by conducting parent-teacher meetings three times a year. According to Mahadevasamy, a lecturer at Chamarajanagar Government Pre-University College, these meetings are designed to boost student confidence and provide essential moral support to those appearing for the exams this year.

Administrative Oversight and Training for Lecturers

Chamarajanagar Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, Puttagowramma, highlighted the department's proactive measures in an interview. She explained that the initiatives include monthly reviews of progress across all PU colleges and specialized training for lecturers to enhance their teaching effectiveness and improve overall performance in PU examinations.

The department has set a clear target for this year: to achieve a noticeable improvement in the second PU results. Through these coordinated efforts involving committees, teachers, students, and parents, Chamarajanagar district aims to climb higher in the state rankings and ensure better academic outcomes for its students.
