Dharwad District Braces for PUC II Annual Examinations with Extensive Preparations
The Dharwad district in Karnataka is all set to host the Pre-University Course (PUC) II annual examinations from February 28 to March 17, with a total of 26,954 students registered to appear. The examinations will be conducted daily from 10 am to 1 pm, ensuring a structured and timely schedule for all candidates.
Student Demographics and Stream-Wise Enrollment
Of the total registered candidates, 12,665 are boys and 14,289 are girls, highlighting a higher participation rate among female students. A significant majority, 24,714 students, are appearing for the examination for the first time, including 11,269 boys and 13,445 girls. Additionally, 2,240 students have registered as repeaters, private candidates, or for result improvement, showcasing diverse educational pathways.
Stream-wise, Science leads the enrollment with 13,169 students (6,198 boys and 6,971 girls), followed by Commerce with 7,178 students (3,315 boys and 3,863 girls) and Arts with 6,607 students (3,152 boys and 3,455 girls). This distribution reflects the academic preferences and career aspirations of students in the region.
Examination Centers and Infrastructure Arrangements
Students from 176 colleges across the district have registered for the examination. To accommodate them, a total of 43 examination centers have been established, strategically located to ensure accessibility. The centers are distributed as follows: 16 in Dharwad, 18 in Hubballi, one in Alnavar, two in Kalaghatagi, three in Kundgol, two in Navalgund, and one in Annigeri.
Deputy Commissioner Snehal R emphasized that strict instructions have been issued to chief superintendents to conduct the examinations peacefully and without malpractice. She stated, "Adequate seating, drinking water, and sanitation facilities must be ensured at all centers, and any desk shortages must be addressed immediately through tagged colleges." Advance inspections have been conducted at all centers to verify CCTV surveillance and infrastructure readiness.
Enhanced Security and Monitoring Measures
To maintain integrity and prevent malpractices, several robust security measures have been implemented. A 200-meter radius around each examination center will be declared a prohibited area during exam hours, with photocopy shops, cyber centers, and computer centers within this limit required to remain closed. Confidential materials transported from the District Treasury to centers will be escorted by armed police, with GPS tracking installed in vehicles for added security.
Round-the-clock CCTV monitoring has been arranged at the district treasury and the deputy commissioner's office. A webcasting system will be operational at the zilla panchayat Dharwad office for real-time monitoring of the examination process. Sitting squads, district vigilance teams, and taluk vigilance teams will conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with guidelines.
Except for chief superintendents, all staff members are prohibited from carrying mobile phones or any electronic devices inside examination centers, further minimizing the risk of unauthorized activities.
Student Guidance and Examination Schedule
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Bhuvanesh Patil confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made, and students have been informed about examination guidelines through their respective colleges. He assured that the district administration is committed to providing a conducive environment for students to perform their best.
For science stream students, the examination schedule offers adequate preparation time between subjects. The papers are scheduled as follows:

- English: March 3
- Physics: March 6
- Chemistry: March 9
- Mathematics: March 14
- Biology: March 16
