CBSE Copy Mix-Up: Human Error Blamed, Not System Failure

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that the recent copy mix-up during examinations was due to human error and not a system failure. The Committee for Examination Management and Planning (Coempt) addressed concerns regarding Online Submission of Marks (OSM) glitches, stating that the issue arose from manual handling rather than technical faults.

Details of the Incident

During the examination process, some answer sheets were reportedly mixed up, causing confusion among students and parents. CBSE officials launched an investigation to determine the root cause. The probe revealed that the mix-up occurred during the collection and sorting of answer scripts, where human oversight led to incorrect bundling.

Coempt emphasized that the OSM system, which facilitates online submission of marks, functioned properly and was not responsible for the error. The committee assured that all technical systems are robust and undergo regular checks to prevent such incidents.

Measures Taken

In response to the incident, CBSE has implemented additional training for staff involved in handling examination materials. New protocols have been introduced to ensure double-checking of bundles before processing. The board also plans to conduct random audits to maintain accuracy.

Students affected by the mix-up have been identified, and their answer sheets are being re-evaluated. CBSE has promised that no student will face disadvantage due to the error.

Reactions and Reassurances

Parents and educators expressed concern over the incident, but CBSE’s swift action and transparent communication have helped alleviate worries. The board reiterated its commitment to fair and error-free examinations.

Coempt stated, "We acknowledge the lapse and have taken corrective steps. Our systems are secure, and we will continue to improve our processes."

CBSE advises all stakeholders to remain calm and trust the board’s procedures. For any further issues, a helpline has been set up for immediate assistance.
