The Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship (CGMS) examination for the year 2026 is set to be conducted across Gujarat on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the state's educational initiatives. This year, a staggering 6.28 lakh students have registered for the exam, which is the highest number recorded in the past three years, according to the State Examination Board.

Exam Details and Eligibility Criteria

The primary objective of this examination is to identify and provide financial support to 25,000 students from economically weaker sections, covering their education from Classes 9 to 12. To be eligible, students must have completed their education from Classes 1 to 8 in government schools, aided institutions, or under the Right to Education (RTE) scheme in private schools.

For the academic year 2026-27, a total of 6,28,407 students have successfully applied online, showcasing a robust participation rate. The examination will be administered at 2,702 cluster-level centres across the state, all of which are equipped with advanced CCTV surveillance to ensure transparency and fairness.

Logistical Arrangements and Test Format

To accommodate the large number of candidates, more than 24,000 blocks have been arranged at these centres. The test will be conducted in both Gujarati and English languages, and it is scheduled to take place at all district headquarters from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturday.

Those selected may secure admission into Class 9 at Model Residential Schools operated by the tribal development department.
