Ladakh Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Monday inaugurated the union territory's first dedicated school for children with special needs in Kargil. The school, established under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, marks a significant milestone in Ladakh's efforts to provide inclusive education for all children.
Barrier-Free Infrastructure
The school features comprehensive barrier-free infrastructure designed to cater to students with various disabilities. Ramps have been installed at all entry points, and classrooms are designed to be wheelchair accessible. The campus includes specially equipped washrooms, tactile paving for visually impaired students, and sensory-friendly learning spaces.
Child-friendly facilities such as low-height furniture, wide corridors, and non-slip flooring have been incorporated throughout the school. The building also includes a dedicated therapy room and a quiet zone for students who may need a calm environment.
Inauguration Ceremony
During the ceremony, L-G Saxena interacted with children with special needs and their parents, assuring them of the administration's commitment to inclusive education.
