When 51-year-old Dattatray Ware, affectionately known as Ware Guruji, was assigned to this school in 2022, he encountered what many would consider an impossible situation. Instead of seeing limitations, Ware perceived a blank canvas awaiting transformation. "When I first arrived, there were just three students and two dilapidated rooms," Ware recalled. "I made a conscious decision not to simply repair the building. My goal was to fundamentally rebuild the very concept of schooling itself."
Today, visitors to the school find no traditional benches, blackboards, or rigid classrooms filled with chalk dust. Instead, sunlight streams through glass walls, illuminating open spaces where children actively choose their learning paths. The atmosphere buzzes with collaborative energy as students engage with various educational tools and projects.

The remarkable turnaround would not have been possible without the active participation of Jalindernagar's 150 villagers, who became Ware's partners in this educational revolution. They contributed not just financial resources but also their labor and unwavering faith in the teacher's vision.
Sangdev Jhodage, whose grandchildren now study at the school, explained the community's motivation: "We placed our complete trust in Ware Guruji. He emphasized that this school must belong to the children themselves—not to the government, not to the teachers, but to the students who learn here."

From a near-defunct institution with three students, the school now thrives with 130 enrolled learners, including 16 open-school participants. Senior students regularly mentor their junior counterparts, creating a dynamic peer-learning environment. "Our competition is not with external benchmarks but with our own potential," Ware added. "We grow together as a learning community."
Student Innovations: From Circuit Boards to Drones

Ten-year-old Rupesh Chavan proudly demonstrates his programming project on a small circuit board, where bulbs illuminate in response to finger gestures. "One finger triggers one light, two fingers activate two lights," he explained with enthusiasm. "This technology could have practical applications in household systems."
Nearby, 13-year-old Yash Daptari prepares to launch a drone he and his classmates constructed using the school's 3D printer. "We observed how drones were utilized during Operation Sindoor," Yash shared while adjusting the remote controller. "Our aspiration is to develop even more advanced versions with enhanced capabilities."

The school's innovative approach captured international attention, culminating in October 2025 with the prestigious World's Best School, Community Choice Award from T4 Education in the United Kingdom. Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil acknowledged the school's impact: "Within just three years, Ware's innovative methods have converted a declining zilla parishad school into a vibrant laboratory of educational ideas. The minister further announced ambitious plans: "We envision establishing at least 25 similar government schools across Pune district in the coming years, inspired by this remarkable success story."
Student Aspirations and Community Impact
Rajeshwari Tambe, an eighth-standard open-school student who guides visitors through the campus, embodies the school's empowering environment. She aspires to crack the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and eventually study at an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), supplementing her learning with YouTube tutorials.
