Nagpur to Get Rs 49.45 Crore OBC Boys' Hostel with 500 Capacity
The Maharashtra government has given the green light for a major infrastructure project in Nagpur, approving Rs 49.45 crore for the construction of a modern OBC boys' hostel. This five-storey complex, designed to accommodate 500 students, will be built within the campus of the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Indora, marking a significant boost for educational facilities in the region.
Project Details and Sanction Process
The sanction was formally cleared during a committee meeting held on February 13, with the state government approving the estimated project cost subject to technical and procedural conditions. A Government Resolution (GR) dated February 20 outlines the approved estimates, directing the Public Works Department (PWD) to serve as the executing agency. Architectural planning will be handled by a private architect to ensure modern design standards.
To ensure proper oversight, the Superintending Engineer and Chief Engineer of the PWD's regional division in Nagpur have been tasked with scrutinizing and authenticating the project's recapitulation sheet. This step is crucial for maintaining transparency and adherence to budgetary guidelines.
Infrastructure and Built-Up Area
The main hostel building will feature a ground floor and four upper floors, with each floor boasting a built-up area of 1,521.71 square meters. This brings the total hostel built-up area to an impressive 9,130.26 square meters. In addition to student accommodations, the project includes residential quarters for staff, comprising a ground floor of 270.41 square meters and a first floor of 265.20 square meters, totaling 535.61 square meters. The overall built-up area for the entire project will be 9,665.87 square meters.
Comprehensive Amenities and Security Features
The hostel complex is planned to be a fully-equipped facility with modern amenities to ensure student comfort and safety. Key features include:
- Lifts for easy access across all five floors
- CCTV surveillance systems throughout the premises
- Advanced firefighting systems to meet safety standards
- A 500 KLD sewage treatment plant for sustainable waste management
- Residential staff quarters to provide on-site supervision
Budget Allocation and Cost Breakdown
Of the total Rs 49.45 crore outlay, a substantial Rs 27.06 crore has been earmarked for the core civil construction of the hostel and staff quarters. The remaining funds are allocated for various essential components:
- Electrification Works: Rs 4.50 crore for internal and external installations, firefighting systems, CCTV, pump house, borewell, lifts, and area lighting
- Water Supply and Sanitary Works: Rs 1.35 crore to ensure reliable utilities
- Furniture Provision: Rs 3.19 crore for furnishing the hostel and quarters
This detailed budgeting reflects the government's commitment to creating a comprehensive living and learning environment for OBC students in Nagpur.
The project represents a significant investment in educational infrastructure, aimed at providing quality accommodation and support for students at the Government ITI. With construction set to begin soon, this hostel complex is expected to enhance the institute's capacity and contribute to the overall development of technical education in Maharashtra.
