OBC Students in Jharkhand Face Financial Hardship as Scholarships Remain Unpaid for Two Years

The OBC Chatra Adhikar Sangharsh Samiti made a pressing appeal to the Jharkhand state government on Friday, demanding the immediate release of overdue scholarships for OBC students. These crucial funds have been pending for two years, severely impacting the educational pursuits of thousands of students across the state.

Widespread Financial Crisis Among Students

Members of the organization highlighted that the prolonged delay in scholarship distribution has plunged students into a significant financial crisis. Many are struggling to pay their course fees, purchase essential textbooks, and cover other educational expenses. This situation threatens to disrupt their academic progress and future opportunities.

Sanjay Sahu, a representative of the OBC Chatra Adhikar Sangharsh Samiti, addressed the media in Ranchi, stating, "In the last two financial years, 2023-24 and 2024-25, approximately 3 lakh OBC students have not received their scholarships. The government is effectively pulling back OBC students who are already economically and socially deprived."

Impact on Student Lives and Education

The non-payment of scholarships has forced many students from Ranchi to return to their native villages, while others have resorted to taking up odd jobs in the city to make ends meet. Sahu emphasized the urgency of the situation, appealing to the government to release the scholarships promptly so that students can continue their studies without further interruption.

Satish Keshri, another member of the organization, criticized the government's handling of the issue. He noted that while students suffer, both the central and state governments appear to be engaged in a blame game, shifting responsibility rather than addressing the problem directly.

Government Officials Unresponsive to Inquiries

Efforts to seek clarification from key officials have been met with silence. Repeated calls to Welfare Minister Chamra Linda and Secretary Kripanand Jha to inquire about the reasons behind the delay in scholarship payments went unanswered. This lack of communication has only added to the frustration and uncertainty faced by the affected students and their families.

The OBC Chatra Adhikar Sangharsh Samiti's appeal underscores a critical need for timely financial support in education, particularly for marginalized communities. The delay in scholarship disbursement not only hampers individual academic journeys but also raises broader concerns about equity and access to education in Jharkhand.
