Punjab Education Minister Completes Landmark Inspection of 2,000 Government Schools
In a significant development for Punjab's education sector, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains conducted a surprise inspection at the Government Senior Secondary School in Jhita Kalan, Amritsar, on Friday. Minister Bains revealed that he has completed ground inspections of more than 2,000 government schools throughout Punjab since assuming office. He emphasized that this achievement sets what he described as an unprecedented benchmark in the state's history.
"I have established a new record by conducting comprehensive ground visits to over 2,000 government schools across Punjab since taking charge," Bains declared during his school visit. "This marks the first instance in Punjab's history where an education minister has undertaken such an extensive, grassroots-level review of our education system."

The minister highlighted the comprehensive nature of his inspection drive, noting that no district has been left untouched from Pathankot to Fazilka and Ferozepur to Mohali. "This is my passion, this is my obsession," Bains stated passionately. "With approximately 20,000 schools in Punjab, I am on a determined mission to ensure educational quality across the state."
Focus on Educational Standards and Samarth Programme
During his interaction with staff and students at the Jhita Kalan school, Minister Bains thoroughly reviewed educational standards and management practices. A key focus of his assessment was the progress of the 'Samarth' programme, a flagship initiative specifically designed to address the learning crisis in primary classes.
Recalling the educational landscape when he assumed office, Bains noted that a significant percentage of primary-level children struggled with basic literacy skills. "Many children at the primary level were unable to read or write when we began this journey," he explained.
