Bilkis Khatun, a resident of Miyan Bazar in Midnapore Town, completed the examination before rushing to the morgue where her mother's body was kept, showcasing extraordinary resilience in the face of personal loss.
Tragic Family Incident Unfolds Before Crucial Exam
Bilkis Khatun, a student at Vidyasagar Vidyapith Girls School, faced an unimaginable tragedy when her mother, Sultana Begum (42), suddenly fell ill on Wednesday evening. She was immediately rushed to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital but tragically passed away en route. Doctors revealed that Begum had been suffering from multiple health complications, including hypertension and cholesterol-related issues, with an autopsy conducted on Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.
Student's Determination Prevails Amidst Grief
The devastating news shattered the family, including Bilkis and her elder sister, who is a college student. Reportedly, Bilkis lost consciousness around midnight due to the shock. However, her family encouraged her not to abandon the examination she had prepared for over several months. Despite her profound grief, she gathered the strength to appear for the Sanskrit paper at her exam centre, Mission Girls School, located approximately 4 kilometers from her home.
School Authorities and Officials Laud Student's Commitment
Swati Bandyopadhyay, the headmistress of Vidyasagar Vidyapith Girls School, expressed deep admiration for Bilkis's courage. "Once we learned of the tragedy, we extended our heartfelt condolences and provided counselling to the student so she could appear for the examination in a composed manner," she stated. Ramjiban Mandi, coordinator of the Higher Secondary examination committee, added, "Despite being in mourning, she sat for the exam. Very few possess such grit and commitment."
